In addition, WMC also develops strategic chemical processing assets critical for the lithium-ion battery market on a principal basis. WMC employs a highly-skilled, lean team across Europe, the US and Asia with a complementary set of backgrounds in investment banking, commodity trading and mining & processing.

About the Role

WMC is looking for a (Senior) Associate to join the battery materials team with a focus on our merchant and financing activities globally across key metals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese and copper.

We are looking for someone who has a keen interest in learning about and contributing to:

  • The commercial aspects of physical commodity trading, such as originating deals, negotiating (long-term) contracts, and understanding principal risk
  • Structuring, pitching and executing large commodity-linked transactions such as funded repurchase agreements, secured inventory financings, debt facilities, equity investments and a variety of commodity-linked derivatives

As well as possesses the following characteristics:

  • Keen interest in finance, the energy transition and related commodity markets
  • Commercial mindset and motivated to take early ownership on client contact and transaction origination and management
  • Strong analytical skillset and attention to detail with ability to spot and understand key risks and commercial opportunities
  • Comfortable with operating in an entrepreneurial, constantly changing, global environment in an emerging industry
  • Willingness to travel globally (our business spans across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas)
  • Enjoys being part of fast-growing business and working in a close-knit team in the heart of Amsterdam

Requirements

  • Strong academic track record with finance, economics / econometrics or engineering background preferred
  • Up to 1-2 years work experience or significant internship experience required, preferably at an investment bank, strategy consultant, commodity trader, or infra/PE/cleantech fund
  • Fluent in English. Additional languages (Mandarin, Spanish, Russian) considered a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel
  • Experience with financial modelling is a plus
